Do you love giving handmade presents but don’t have a lot of time to make one?

Fret not, my friend, and I have a quick and cuddly solution for you that requires just a few supplies.

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen my colorful Happy Cats with their smiling faces on my feed. Now you can make these softies on your own. They make perfect gifts for the kids in your life.

All you need is the Happy Cat Softie printed pattern available in my Spoonflower shop. It comes in five different colors, and you can print it on a wide variety of fabrics. It also includes instructions!

For this project, I recommend using Fleece or Minky for soft toys, but you could also use Linen Cotton Canvas to use it as a pillow.

Before you start cutting and sewing, take the time to wash the fabric to avoid shrinkage.

Step 1

Cut the front and back of the cat along the dashed lines.Cut the Happy Cat Softie pattern

Step 2

Line up the right sides of the fabric and pin or clip together.

Step 3

Using a Straight Stitch presser foot (front) or a Walking Foot (back). I recommend the latter because it will feed the Minky fabric equally while sewing avoiding too much slipping.
Sew along the color border of the cat. Leave a 2-inch opening.

Step 4

To avoid bulky fabric, cut around the seam allowance. You can use pinking shears for this or clip the curves, as shown in the image on the left.

Step 5

Stuff the happy cat softie with the filling of your choice. I used a polyfill for this task.

Step 6

Using the ladder stitch, close the opening.

That’s it!

With little effort and even less time, you made a wonderful gift for the little ones in your life.
